Back to school time!!
We hope you had a fruitful summer: Rest, reflection and action plan for the coming months.
Summer is always a good period for me to read and learn. ( I will always incite you to read, it’s key of your success, check the Better you section : Here’s My Secret Weapon: I Read)
3 books came on top of my list this summer:
1) Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson: Leonardo’s delight at combining diverse passions remains the ultimate recipe for creativity
Bad Blood is a perfect summary of all the excess and wrongdoing in our Startup culture. A must read for all entrepreneurs. Why is it interesting?
First, we learn more from failure than success.
Second, Elisabeth Holmes (Theranos founder) is communication genius and she builds an amazing aura around her venture, almost untouchable but she got herself got into her own lies and over-promises.
In her relentless drive to be a successful startup founder, she had built a bubble around herself that was cutting her off from reality.
We have as entrepreneur one day, play around the fake it until you make it culture to convince investors and key talents.
Hyping your product to get funding while concealing your true progress and hoping that reality will eventually catch up to the hype continues to be tolerated in the tech industry.
It has its limits and more importantly is as to be temporary and you have to deliver otherwise you are not selling a vision anymore but you are a plain liar.
Holmes channeled this fake-it-until-you-make-it culture, and she went to extreme lengths to hide the fakery.
Read this book, it’s fascinating and it will help you to stay true to your investors, key talents and yourself.
Glad to be back,
Enjoy your week

I speak with all of the founders I’ve invested in on Messenger/WhatsApp etc regularly. When things are hard it’s much easier to ping me in a casual medium that we are constantly communicating in anyway than having to think “oh shit, I need to email my investors about that thing”
